Van Puijenbroek's design was born out of a desire to create a beautiful lamp that didn't rely on the often bulky and unattractive energy-saving light bulbs. The result is Le Lumiere, a lamp that uses the latest, dimmable 25 Watt LEDs. The lamp bracket, with its minimal proportions, hangs on three thin threads, one of which serves as the power supply. This innovative design allows for a bulbless lamp, a concept that sets Le Lumiere apart from traditional lighting fixtures.
Le Lumiere's unique properties extend beyond its bulbless design. The lamp bracket can be supplied with two different lampshades that alter the atmosphere to suit the user's preference. This flexibility aligns with the contemporary interior trend of D.I.Y., utilizing flexible furniture for an effective and dynamic use of space. With just one action, an interior can be given a different impact, demonstrating the versatility of this design.
Produced as close to home as possible, many parts of Le Lumiere are sourced from the Netherlands or Germany. All the mounting work is done manually in the Netherlands, ensuring a high-quality, long-lasting product. The lamp's dimensions are 500x40 mm, making it a compact yet impactful addition to any space.
The lamp bracket is an LED illuminated ring that can be used with or without a lampshade. The lampshades, available in white and black, are easy to swap, allowing the user to adapt the look and functionality of the lamp and the room. The dimming function of the LED lighting also adds to the lamp's versatility. The lamp can be used as a solitary feature, or as a repetitive, space-defining shape.
Le Lumiere was exhibited at 100% Design in Rotterdam in May 2011, less than a year after the project's inception in June 2010. This design is part of Le Puij's Play Collection, a series of furniture designed with high quality, flexibility, and individuality in mind. The collection, like Le Lumiere, is designed to be playful, cheerful, and stylish.
Le Lumiere's innovative design and unique properties earned it the Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2012. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
